Asylum and Immigration!

General: Asylum and Immigration is one of the most talked about issues within Great Britain. We realise that a lot of people feel we should not allow anyone else into our country as they only take Britain's benefits and harm our economy, but this is not true. While some of the immigrants do come to take advantage of our welfare system or escape a crime they have committed, most people come here for a new start and to make something of themselves. We want to nurture this feeling, ensuring anyone who wants to come here to work, can. Stricter controls need to be placed on immigration to make sure we do not accept criminals or anyone who will take advantage of the hospitality we offer, but also make sure anyone here to work and provide a service to Great Britain is allowed to enter the country.

Asylum Seekers: Asylum is an issue we take seriously. Realising that an asylum seeker is supposed to seek asylum in the closest friendly nation, the fact that so many of them end up in Great Britain is a extremely concerning. If someone comes to Britain seeking asylum, a full investigation should be undertaken. This investigation needs to ascertain the reasons they seek asylum, whether it was possible for them to seek asylum in another country before reaching us and what their needs are if asylum was granted. If the investigation found they passed through countries without seeking asylum, we would have no choice but to send them back to these countries to apply for asylum. We should also not accept any asylum seeker who is leaving their home country because they want to. Their should be a genuine need for them to be here.

We would also begin a system of 5-year checks in which the case is reviewed and a decision made as to whether or not to allow the asylum seeker to remain another 5 years or if it is safe for them to return home.

Citizenship: We feel that anyone who comes here to work or to provide a service to this country deserves the right to remain here and even gain citizenship after a certain period. We would therefore introduce a strict test which not only tests the applicants knowledge of Great Britain but also tests their knowledge of current affairs, history and law. Once they have an understanding and working knowledge of our country, they should be accepted as a citizen.

Illegal Immigration: Anyone who has illegally entered this country should be taken into custody by the Immigration services and a full review should be instigated. This review will assess not only why they have entered Britain, but also if it is safe for them to return home. If it is deemed safe for them to return to their country, they should be deported. If it is not safe, they should be granted the right to apply for asylum. A full review of the current border controls will be undertaken. We want to find the best and most efficient way to improve our checks and our control, making it a more stringent process and overall, decreasing the number of illegal immigrants.
