Mission Statement

The Mission Statement is: Your Candidate, Your Council.

In North East Lincolnshire, the Generalist Party wants to create a decisive and dynamic Council with members that are able to agree on aims and targets; efficiently and effectively acting upon them.

To do this, the Party aims to offer not only a series of policies that they have created by looking at the current needs of the area but also by listening to the views, opinions, thoughts and ideas of the people.

This will not only allow the Party to make the changes they feel will create an overall better Council but also allow the people to tell their Councillors and the Generalist Party as a whole, what they would like to see happen in the area and what they think could be a good idea to instigate across the area.

After all the role of the Local Council is to build and maintain a good way of life for all those living in the area. The Generalist Party wants to advance on this philosophy, in such a way that the people of Grimsby, Cleethorpes and all surrounding areas, can actually see the benefits first-hand.

With your help in electing Generalist candidates in your Ward, we will achieve these goals and create a vibrant community for all in North East Lincolnshire, making it the place to be.

Benefits

Increasing the quality and speed of service in the Municipal Offices.

Many people living in North East Lincolnshire have experienced the dire processing times for Housing and council tax benefit. Just when you have hit rock bottom and are in desperate need of help from the local authority to get by, North East Lincolnshire council lets you down!

In certain cases it can take 3 months before the honest people who really need that support see any benefit from their application. We also aim to improve the speed in which discounted council tax forms are processed to ensure those entitled to a reduced rate receive it from the start. On the opposite side there are those who commit benefit fraud, stealing your money. Not only do we wish to improve speed and quality of the service that the honest majority of claimants receive, we also aim to put a stop to and punish those who claim fraudulently.

The Generalist Party understands how hard life is in today’s world. Money flies out of your hands before you’ve even had chance to earn it working over 50 hours a week! We want to streamline the efficiency of the local council and benefits offices by working more closely with them, to ensure that people receive the aid they need and the service they deserve.

Children and Young People

Improving education and social care for the youth of North East Lincolnshire.

The children living in North East Lincolnshire are the future of the community and as such the Generalist Party realises the important necessity for a good, secure education and a thriving social life. To this end we will aim to improve the funding to schools in North East Lincolnshire and the availability of an open curriculum, which gives students a wider range of subjects to study. We will also strive to provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities and after-school clubs and groups including youth centres, local sports teams and particular interest clubs.

The Generalist Party main aim for the youth of North East Lincolnshire is to create entertainment in the evenings, during weekends and school holidays for under 18's, to offer them an alternative to roaming the streets in boredom. There are, after all, countless activities and services that could be provided to interest the younger people in the area and these can be easily achieved and provided, at a minimum cost. These services do not require extra funding through Council Tax and can be financed by themselves.

As well as education and a good social life, the Generalist Party understands the strains on family life and the tough periods younger people can encounter growing up. To help with this, the Generalist Party aim to promote the services there to help young people during family problems, personal troubles and general grievances so that they know what help and advice is always available to them in North East Lincolnshire.

Culture

Improve the library and leisure facilities for the whole area.

The Generalist Party accepts that in these times good leisure facilities, provided at a low cost, are hard to find. Expanding on the readily available services and facilities is a major aim for the Generalist Party in North East Lincolnshire. We want to provide healthy, fun activities, such as swimming, tennis, football to all members of the public in Grimsby, Cleethorpes and the surroundings areas by increasing the quality and quantity of equipment provided for these activities.

As well as the leisure facilities provided by the council, the Generalist Party wants to improve the use of town libraries and make them more user friendly allowing more people access to the internet and computers at an affordable rate. Information needs to be available via the internet, books and other sources through the libraries for those who are unable to otherwise access this material

Environment

Improve transport, recycling and waste disposal across the area.

Everyone realises that the environment is ever increasingly a more popular subject of debate for political parties. The Generalist Party realises that North East Lincolnshire is no different. The party has a number of aims within this area. Firstly we want to make available to every household in North East Lincolnshire the ability to recycle using the colour coded box system and the brown wheelie bin already in place for many homes. It is an easy, convenient way to recycle during the hectic lifestyles many people lead in this day and age which we plan to implement across North East Lincolnshire.

Secondly, The Generalist Party is a huge supporter of public transport, though we also recognise the room for improvement. We will work closer with the local bus services to improve standards of the services provided, further routes and more buses to travel those routes. Public transport can be a fantastic way to travel North East Lincolnshire and it is our aim to ensure high standards are met to encourage as many people as possible to use this easy, affordable mode of transport.

Private hire car firms are also a good mode of transport in North East Lincolnshire with a number of great companies running already. The area is however, crowded by many cars of these companies and it is becoming hard on the environment as well as hard on the drivers to earn a decent living. The Generalist Party, to this end, will communicate more with the local Private hire car firms when handing out licenses to new drivers to ensure that those already in the business do not have their income slashed further.

Housing

Improvement of the Council Housing services and aid to the homeless.

Council housing is seen by many as poor, cheap and uninhabitable. It is a way for those less fortunate and on benefits to live somewhere rather than the street. The Generalist Party wants to change this image so that Council houses can be enjoyed by those who work hard and want to make a difference to our community. We want to create a clean, safe and habitable image as well as making it easier for those who desperately need a home to get one. While it is important to keep Council houses affordable, for those on low income or benefits, we want to make it self sufficient so that the tax payers don't end up paying more for a secure, friendly, clean and decent place to live for those who require it.

We aim to clean up the Council houses available, making sure they are not an eye sore in our community and they are also a nice, clean place for someone to live in, especially those with a young family. A main aim of the Party is to clean the tower flats to create a better image and not one of poor, cheap and dirty. Also cleaning up the houses which are boarded up and stand out within the community, making people regret choosing to live in the area, this should not be the case since the Council is supposed to build and maintain a good way of life for all those living here.

Knowing that sometimes homelessness can be thrust upon some people, we want to make sure that no one in North East Lincolnshire goes without a roof over their head. We want to create a safe house, where anyone who is homeless can stay until a more permanent residence can be found. This could be a shared house or a small section of flats, either way it would give someone a bed, toilet and kitchen for the night. Then, when the Council find a place for the person to move into on a more secure, permanent basis, they can do so without having to be found on the street.

Social Care

Improve the services for adults in terms of care across the area.

Everybody has problems in their life which they must face and overcome however, this does not have to be done alone. The Generalist Party understands the trappings of a hard life, so wish to make sure everyone knows and understands that there is always help available to those who need it. We aim to promote the services available to adults in North East Lincolnshire including the Citizens Advice Bureau, Alcoholics Anonymous, Parent Line and Drug Rehab clinics. We wish to work with all these services to make sure a structured, safe and confidential service is offered to anyone who needs it, for any reason and at any time.

We also want to improve and create new services to help the older people in North East Lincolnshire, including a speedier bus pass service and a quicker resolve to any heating problems in the home, which includes the offer of free central heating upgrades and possible reductions on costs of living for those who have already given a lot to their community.

It is also important to understand the different walks of life and lifestyles in the area including disabilities, racism and sexuality. We want to make sure that people are aware of the help and advice that is their for them and also make sure that the people of North East Lincolnshire understand more about these situations as a whole. This can be achieved by making a more positive and sensitive approach in dealing with homophobia, racism and general bullying across the area so that the Community does not suffer from hate crimes.

Services to the People

Increasing communication between the people and the Council.

As the mission statement says, it is your council and therefore the councillors and candidates should answer to you. The Generalist Party aim to have all their candidates hold a 'Meet-the-Candidate' session as well as a 'Tell us your policies' session during Local Elections. This gives everyone the chance to meet the candidates for their Ward and also tell them what they want to see happen in North East Lincolnshire. Upon being elected, any and all Generalist Councillors will hold a weekly surgery for anyone in their Ward to attend and ask questions, their will be no time limit so if the meeting starts at 6pm it will continue till every question is answered, after all a Councillor should not have anything better to do than listen to the people.

The only other change that the Generalist Party would make is transparent expenses for all Generalist Councillors. This means any member of the public can request, view and query the expenses of the Councillor, to make sure that the money collected through Council Tax, is spent on North East Lincolnshire and not it's Councillors as many of the other parties seem to think.

The Community

Creating a link between Neighbourhood Watch and the police.

Understanding that the Community as a whole is the key to a good Council, The Generalist Party intend to take a number of steps to improve the Community, making it safer, cleaner and generally better. The main aim of the Generalist Party in the community, is re-establishing the Neighbourhood Watch program. Re-inventing this program, to be set up with the help of the Councillors in your Ward will create a community which not only looks after itself but also helps protect each others property and well being. The main aim in this is to link every Neighbourhood Watch group in a Ward to a Councillor and a Community Support Officer of the Humberside Police Service. Creating this tri-link of communication and support will allow a Ward to have an effective measure of Neighbourhood Watch and also make it easier to contact the police and Council in any situation. Your Councillor will become your Council Liaison and your Community Support Officer will become your Police Liaison. Working together we can reduce vandalism, criminal damage, breaking and entering as well as general nuisances on our streets.

We also want to make sure that the Fire Service is at it's full capability which would mean making sure there is adequate funding for staff and equipment as well as promoting the Service in the hope of reducing the problems they face when going about their work. The same can be said for the Police Authority, finding a way to lower the time it takes for an Officer to be in contact with anyone who rings 999, as well as improving the staffing and equipment that is available in the area.

The Generalist Party want to create a safe, friendly and habitable community for all, to do this we need your ideas and suggestions so feel free to contact your Generalist Councillor or Candidate and tell them what you want to see to improve your community and make North East Lincolnshire the place to live.

Ward Policies

Every Generalist Party Candidate will have their own policies for their Ward, this will be made clear in election leaflets or by contacting the Party Head Quarters.

Your Candidate, Your Council!
