Social Security!

General: Social Security covers many areas of everyday life such as benefits, wages, taxes and pensions. The Generalist Party want to instigate a complete overhaul of the current benefit system, review wages and pensions and look at all details within the tax system to find opportunities to lower taxes on the British people, or the need to rise them. We want to increase the amount of small business grants available, allowing everyone who needs it to be able to access the grant, and ensure local businesses gain the support of the government and thrive across Britain without the hindrance of large corporations stunting their opportunities. However, we also want to make certain that the larger businesses can provide a great service and cost efficient products to the people of Great Britain.

Benefits: The benefits in Britain today are a necessary life line for those hard working people in our nation who have to pull through hard times, be it because of losing their job or struggling through family problems. To ensure a great system is in place for those unfortunate people, we want to create a strictly controlled yet fair department that is their to assist anyone who genuinely needs the support. While there is a high need for annual reviews and regular checks, including a thorough investigation at the time of application, we want to make sure that people who require support receive it quickly and to their full entitlement. Realising the constant hype in product prices, rent, fuel, travel and utility bills, the Generalist Party understands that the amount of financial support a person in Britain, on benefits and even low paying jobs, receives is nowhere near enough to keep them afloat and get their lives back on track. To this end we want to review the amount of entitlement for each applicant, based on their own individual situation, creating a means tested method of calculating the entitlement.

This means a full review of Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance, Incapacity Benefit and Disability Living Allowance to ensure that the people in this country who really need the support of our Government get it when it is needed. This would also include a full review of Council Tax and Housing Benefit to ensure they too are working as effectively as possible. We realise that from the age of 18 people are moving out into the country on their own and starting their own families. Therefore the current rule that anyone under the age of 25 receives a shared room rate, from housing benefit, no matter what their living situation, is completely out dated. From the age of 18 people should be able to receive housing benefit for the property they have or require.

Taxes: The Generalist Party wants to review and study each tax in the country to establish the current amount of money the government receives and to ensure that all of the precious taxes in the country are beneficial to the people who pay them all year round. A review of this scale would enable the Generalist Party to locate any unfair taxes currently imposed and alter that tax rate accordingly. It would give us the opportunity to make sure that the current taxes are not going to waste in the slightest and if they are, we have a valuable opportunity to give back to the people as a massive thank you for their earnings and hard work which funds the government in everything it does. Aside from ensuring that everyone in Britain is getting their money's worth, we want to work closely with H.M. Revenue and Customs and the police to fight and prevent fraud of our benefit and tax system. It is the people in this country who work all year round to support the government and Britain as a whole, and those individuals who feel they can steal from the honest people in the country must be stopped and punished. To this end we would look into limiting anyone who has committed tax or benefit fraud when applying in the future. The hard earned money of the British tax payer is not to be extorted by anyone.

Pension: Recognising the risks and benefits of company pensions, the Generalist Party will work closely with businesses in Britain to bring in tighter surveillance and check-ups on their employee pensions. It is no less than devastating to find out that a pension you have paid into for years has been lost or embezzled due to greed. Pensions are a life line for those who no longer work after decades of paying their taxes and doing everything they can to get by and the Generalist Party will do everything it can to ensure the security and prosperity of fair company pensions for all people living and working in Britain. As well as supporting company and private pensions, we want to dive into the countless possibilities that are available to fund re-introduction of state pensions. The State Pension was a fantastic benefit to millions of British people who lacked the security of a private pension and the Generalist Party will work relentlessly at finding a way to carry the cost of a state pension if it is at all possible.

Wages: The National Minimum Wage in Great Britain is pitiful in today's hectic, massively expensive world. The Generalist Party want to work on a national minimum wage which reacts and keeps up with the level of inflation, to increase the quality of life for all those people in Britain who keep our society moving. As well as increasing the minimum wage, we want to merge the National Minimum Wage so that all workers in Britain, 18 and over, receive the same wage for their efforts. It is crystal clear that people under 21, paying rent, fuel bills and taxes should be awarded for the effort they put into their employment, which is more often than not the exact same effort a worker above 21 puts in. This review and improvement will also include a review of the wages paid to under 18's to ensure that they are not being paid unfairly for their hard work in our society. An increase in our minimum wage, to the level of inflation, will only serve to improve the standard of life for millions of Britons on that wage.
