Transport !

General: Transport in Great Britain today, although running sufficiently, is not as good as it could be. The Generalist Party aims to improve the transport industry in both public and private sectors by introducing new initiatives to work alongside and improve the current systems in place. This ranges from improving the roads and rail tracks across the country to, working closely with all transport companies to create cost effective travel for the people of Great Britain. Travel is after all an integral part of everybody's life in Great Britain, whether that is using the buses, trains or their own vehicle.

Road Tax: The Generalist Party wants to work on creating a road tax system, which is much more cost effective, efficient and fair than the one currently in use. For many people living in this country, paying road tax is extremely expensive for something which is almost a necessity in Britain today. A complete review of the current system would enable us to consider methods of improving the road tax system and look at reducing the costs for drivers in this country who get hit hard in the bank balance. We will be looking extensively at ways we can reduce the costs of owning and running a vehicle but also improving the roads and transit system across the country to ensure driving and travelling privately is not the chore it seems to be currently. Working closely with local authorities and private companies to reduce the cost of parking in Pay and Display car parks is an issue which is tightly connected to road tax and something we will be looking at improving.

Petrol and Alternatives: The Generalist Party will look at reducing the costs of driving in Britain further than the road tax reduction aims by considering alternatives to current fuels in the country and also reducing the price of current fuels as much as possible, as it has become a necessary cost of living to so many people.

Current Fuel Situation; We believe that something in society that is a necessity, should be treated as such and therefore should be cheap enough to purchase for all people who require it to work and live out their lives. To this end, we will examine reasons behind the enormous hype in fuel duty and look at ways to alternatively find the finances, thereby giving the petrol duty a relief. It may not be plausible to lower the duty on petrol by a significant rate, but there are options available to enable the government to at least cap the constantly increasing prices on fuel, which would give every driver and family in this country a chance to relax. We understand that people are concerned this will effect the environment, but we feel it will make little difference. People always find the money for petrol, sometimes neglecting other areas of their life such as bills and their healthy lifestyle. Their would be no more or less cars on the road but people would have that little extra cash for their living expenses.

Alternative Options; Whilst petrol is a necessary utility now for everyone in this country, The Generalist Party recognises the acceptable options available for consultation today. Petrol is not the only fuel that can help everyone in Britain in their everyday lives. There are a number of alternative fuels that have the starting financial barrier to overcome before they are able to be utilised as a cheaper, longer lasting fuel that is overall, better for the environment and our country's health. One of the alternatives that deserves recognition is LPG; a fast growing and well supplied fuel source becoming available across the country.

The Generalist Party, considering LPG as one of the many options available, will look into ways to improve the supply of alternative fuels, reduce their cost and allow more and more people access to them through joint efforts with fuel suppliers and transport companies.

Public Transport: The Generalist Party wants to work closer than the government has previously with public transport companies, including bus service providers and rail companies. Whilst public transit in this country is sufficiently working for the people, it is not up to a high standard and deserved service everyone expects. Working with the companies, the Generalist Party will aim to reduce the cost of travelling by public transport whilst improving the quality and efficiency of the service. This can be said for both the rail networks and the bus services. In conjunction with the existing system in place, the Generalist Party would work hard to see new initiatives brought into effect that would directly benefit the country and people here.

Canal System; These include a policy to improve and re-introduce transit businesses to the British Canal System. It is an effective and efficient mode of transportation for business purposes and would only prove to benefit our environment, the state and conditions of our motorways and roads, would systematically ease congestion by sharing the burden of masses of deliveries and haulage across our nation. It is a system which can be achieved with an affordable budget and simply implemented into the existing routes and canal networks. Full research would be undertaken before this is implemented and a full discussion on the effects it would have on transport.

School Transport; Another initiative we would work closely on is the ability to implement a subsidised school bus network which is ready and prepared to assist school children of all ages to their educational institutions and schools. It is safe, cheap and helps us to reduce the number of family vehicles on the road during the “school run”. This effective service would work with passengers paying very little or even nothing towards the easy travel methods which take them from a designated point to school and back again. It will not be financially destructive and could be easy to assemble; working once again with the public transport companies to enable parents to relax, assured that their children make it safely to school and home again.
